FAQ

Those who are looking for an answer to the question «Why electric cars don t need oil?» often ask the following questions:

👉 Which cars need electric?

There’s another kind of zero-emission car on the horizon, too – hydrogen fuel-cell cars (or fuel-cell electric vehicles – FCEVs), such as the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo. Like electric cars, FCEVs have electric motors, but they are powered by hydrogen. This makes them faster to refuel than battery-powered electric cars.

👉 Do electric cars need alternators?

The two main reasons are: 1) An E.V. doesn’t have an engine. 2) There’s a BETTER device to use than an alternator. Remember, the ENERGY that powers the alternator is actually the mechanical energy created by the engine through combustion of fossil fuel. An electric car doesn’t have an engine or gas/diesel fuel.

👉 Do electric cars need axles?

“In these configurations, the driveshaft and axle system are specified to match requirements for the speed, torque and power requirements in a similar manner as with an internal combustion engine and transmission, but the requirements for the electric drive system are matched to a conventional axle and driveshaft ...

Electric motors have very few moving parts, so don't need regular oil changes. Electric cars also require coolant changes, much like regular cars. While there’s no combustion engine in an electric car, the electric motor still gets hot. Engine coolant is required to keep the engine at a suitable temperature. However, as it’s recommended ...

Most electric vehicles do not require any sort of engine oil. The ones that do need it, use it for cooling only. EV motor oil is different than regular engine oil. Typical engine oil is used by internal combustion engines (ICE) to keep all the moving parts, such as the pistons, lubricated.

An electric motor has all the lubrication it needs right from the start. Since there is no air intake and exhaust and there are no lubricated pistons, everything is within a sealed electric motor, there is no need for it. And since there is no gearbox, no oil is needed there either.

The short answer is no. Electric cars do not need motor oil as they don't have the conventional internal combustion engine with all the moving parts. Plug-in hybrids (and hybrids) still require traditional maintenance as they still employ an ICE in combination with an electric motor to increase efficiency.

Well, one straight answer to this question is no. Electric cars don’t need engine oils simply because there’s no engine in them. Electric vehicles are equipped with electric motors and powerful...

Researchers agreed that the lithium-ion chemistry used in today’s generation of batteries for electric cars–and laptops and cell phones is reaching maturity, and that only incremental ...

Sales of electric cars rocketed 186 percent in 2020, to nearly seven percent of all new car sales. And as EVs become more popular, many people have questions about maintaining them Obviously, there...

It was running at higher rpms to get power for starting, then shifted to get the RPMs down from blowing up the motor, at cruise. Modern production electric cars are properly sized so they dont need a transmission. The beauty of electric is simplicity. 1) no oil 2) no radiator 3)no spark plugs, 4) no transmision 5) only 1 moving part 6) little maintenance

Do electric cars need maintenance?

In an electric car, the battery takes up most of the space under the hood. While it may be bulky, heavy and complex, it doesn’t require day-to-day maintenance, but it will in time. As with any electric device, the more time passes, the less charge the battery holds and there’s nothing much you can do about it.
