I'll assume you mean current is spiking and not voltage (breakers do not trip on voltage, only on current). It is possible that your extension cord is too long or too small. Either (or both) conditions will cause a voltage DROP at your polisher, which will casue it to pull more current and eventually trip the breaker.

Flip the breaker back on and then turn on the switches and plug in/turn on devices one at a time. Wait a few minutes in between to see if the circuit will remain on. Each time you turn on a light ...

Megan. A fuse switch that keeps tripping is usually caused by a faulty electrical item or an overloaded circuit. Locating the root of the problem is largely a process of elimination and something you can do yourself. Here we’ll talk you through how to work out why your electric keeps tripping and how to repair a tripped fuse.

Overloaded Circuit . An overloaded circuit is the most common reason for a circuit breaker tripping. It occurs when a circuit is attempting to draw a greater electrical load than it is intended to carry. When too many appliances or light fixtures are operating at the same time, the internal sensing mechanism in the circuit breaker heats up, and the breaker "trips," usually by means of a spring ...

GFCI’s protect you from electric shock. If your own continues to trip, call an electrician for troubleshooting and repairs.. A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) trips when it senses a ground fault, or leakage of currents even as little as 5mA between the hot wire and the ground.. When the breaker senses the current leakage, it trips to protect you and the appliances plugged into the ...

The first thing that comes to mind is installing a speed control switch on the buffers that is rated over the 12 amps that the motors draw. The problem is the initial starting amperage surge. Another possibility would be a Soft-Start device. This is such a common problem with buffers used that I am surprised that the manufacturers do not build in a soft start circuit. The Following links will assist you with your electrical question:

Not sure what’s wrong with your commercial floor buffer? Diagnosing your floor buffer can help you fix it yourself or know when to send it to a factory train...

If the work that a motor has to perform exceeds the amount of work it was designed to do, it will draw excessive current trying to do the work. Overload relays can be set up to withstand temporary work overloads, just as they will withstand surge currents at startup. But if the overload condition continues, the breaker will trip. Motor Overheat

Can an electrician stop my circuit breaker from tripping?

Here are three tips to help prevent a circuit breaker from tripping: Don’t Overload One Circuit. The easiest way to prevent your circuit breaker from constantly tripping is to simply not overload one circuit. Keeping your electrical load split between multiple circuits means each breaker won’t have to bear the full load of current flowing through. That means you’re less likely to accidentally overload a breaker, causing it to trip and shut off.
