Kettling is caused by a build-up of limescale in your system preventing the natural flow of water as it is pumped around your central heating system. Kettling resulting in a tapping noise is more likely to be located in your system’s pipes or radiators.

To silence the beeps, you need to locate and remove the piezo buzzer. The circuit board containing the buzzer is located under a cover on the bottom of the kettle itself (not the kettle base that plugs in to the wall). You will need to remove two triangle recess screws (photo below).

Tankless Water Heater Noise. Tankless water heaters have their own distinct noises. If you hear a clicking noise, this is typically just the flow switch turning on and off to start and stop the flow of water and is completely normal. If it’s making a lot of noise when turned on, it may be because calcium deposits are being left behind due to hard water in your area. Installing a water softener system may be necessary.

Screeching Sounds Screeching noises are sometimes indicative of water flow restriction. The most likely cause is the inlet control valve on the water heater. A partially closed valve will prevent water from flowing through the pipes.

Indeed, any device made predominantly of metal is prone to make a noise. Besides, water-filled radiators can gurgle and bubble, oil-filled radiators can make a ticking sound, and the electric element in tubular towel rails can fizz and hiss (unsurprisingly, not unlike the noise of a kettle). None of these are a cause for any concern.

As a result of this, water can become trapped in the boiler’s heat exchanger which then makes it overheat, generate steam and expand. The whistling noise is a consequence of this process. Other causes of kettling in boilers include sludge or debris collecting around the heat exchanger or if a pump has become stuck or needs to be replaced.

• Ensure that the kettle is correctly positioned on the power base before switching on. • To be protected against electrical hazards, fire and injury to persons, do not immerse the mains lead, plug, power base or kettle in water or any other liquid. • Use the kettle only with the power base supplied and vice versa.

Electric water heaters can emit a humming noise: it’s easy to fix this yourself by tightening the heating element. Water heaters can also cause rumbling noises due to bits of sediment, rust or limescale heating up and expanding within the cylinder. Rumbling noises can also stem from very high pressure.
